J.R.Tolkien

Expedition Vessel — J.R.R. Tolkien
  • Originally named Dierkow, the vessel was built in 1964 as a diesel-electric sea tug at the Edgar-André-Werft shipyard in Magdeburg, East Germany.

  • After changing ownership, it was later converted—first into a two-masted lugger and then into a gaff-rigged schooner with topsail sails. It also received a new engine during these conversions.

  • Since 2025, it has joined the Rusarc fleet, immediately beginning a new chapter of Antarctic expeditions.
