Sea Expedition
to Chukotka
Duration: 17 days
Group: 8 people
We will go from Anadyr to Vankarem sailing around the eastmost point of Eurasia, Cape Dezhnyov, and back
A thousand miles under sail
Chukotka, located at the edge of Eurasia, is the most inaccessible region of Russia.
We suggest you explore it in the most comfortable way, that is, sailing.
You'll dive into a true Arctic expedition
Arctic expedition with pristine nature, sheer cliffs, rookeries of walruses and seals, and, surely, with kings of the North — polar bears. More than that: sometimes our boat will be accompanied by whales!

This is not a fairy-tale — this is an expedition to Chukotka with RUSARC!

Join us!
PROGRAM OF THE SEA EXPEDITION TO CHUKOTKA
Day 1
Day 1
Starting from Anadyr
We'll start our journey in the morning, after getting accommodated on board. We'll spend the whole day at sea, it's a good chance to get to know the sails and each other.
Day 2
Day 2
Meechkin and Raatkyn Spits
Here our aim is to see a rookery of walruses. There are several rookeries here, so if we are not lucky with one, we'll definitely see these beauties at another one!

Day 3
Day 3
South of the Chukchi Peninsula
We'll land in an Eskimo village called Enmelen. One of its districts reveals remnants of semi-underground dwellings where ancient Eskimos used to live in the 1st millennium AD.
Day 4
Day 4
Provideniya Village
This village is an essential port of the Northern Sea Route. Vessels used to moor here as long ago as in the XVII century. We'll visit a local museum of regional history and we'll have a walk around — to enjoy the views of fjords and take pictures of sea lions.
Day 5
Day 5
Cape Chaplin and the Senyavin Strait
Our day will begin with a wildlife photography session with grey whales at Chaplin Cape. After sailing along the Senyavin Strait we'll have a hot bath in Gylmymyl springs.
Day 6
Day 6
Yttygran Island
Ittygran is famous for its whale alley, an Eskimo structure made of whale bones and skulls in XIV - XVI centuries. Also, if we are lucky enough, we'll watch humpback whales feed.
Day 7
Day 7
Lorino
Lorino is the largest national village on the Chukchi Peninsula, it is a centre of whale fishery.
Day 8
Day 8
Dezhnev Cape
We are at the edge of Eurasia! Alaska is only 50 miles away. Behind Dezhnev Cape we'll find ourselves in the Arctic Ocean, now we'll be heading West. After a long-haul transfer to Serdce-Kamen Cape (''Serdce-Kamen'' in Russian means ''Heart-Stone'') we'll see the largest rookery of walruses.
Day 9
Day 9
Kolyuchin Island
This is a small island — with an area of 8 square metres only — in the Chukchi Sea. A polar station used to be located here in the middle of the XX century. At the moment the island is uninhabited, polar bears being its main hosts. They are the ones we would like to catch sight of here.
Day 10
Day 10
Vankarem Village
There is a rookery of walruses close to the Vankarem village. That is why chances are high we will see polar bears here. From this point we start moving backwards, to Anadyr.
Day 11
Day 11
Uelen Village
Uelen is the eastmost village of Eurasia. The main craft here is bone carving, we'll have a sneak peek into a local workshop.
Day 12
Day 12
Lavrentiya Bay
The cosy Lavrentiya Bay presents a wonderful opportunity for fishing. Or for watching the brown bears fish :)
Day 13
Day 13
Yanrakynnot Village
We'll head for a village with an unpronounceable name Yanrakynnot through Mechigmen Bay. There, in the Senyavin Strait, we will watch whales.
Day 14
Day 14
Nunligran Village
This is a tiny village, but an ancient one. Four kilometres away from Nunligran there is a settlement dated the 1st millennium AD. Long time ago aboriginal sea hunters used to camp here, now it will be us who are going to fish in this ancient location.
